The brake caliper is the part of a disc brake system that holds and guides the brake pads and converts hydraulic pressure into mechanical force. Fixed Calipers
The fixed caliper does not move. Pistons are arranged on both sides of the brake disc, typically two or four per caliper, with up to four in high-performance or heavy vehicles. Fixed calipers are common on performance cars, racing and high-output applications.

The floating caliper (also called sliding caliper) is the most widely used design in passenger cars and pickups. Because it is simple, light and cheap to manufacture, the floating caliper is the aftermarket standard.
